WONDO’S “ONE GOAL AT A TIME” PLEDGE FOR STREET SOCCER USA
“On behalf of Street Soccer USA, I want to thank you again for having our program to the game at AT&T Park last week. It was a thrill for us to be there. You can see it in our players’ eyes, they come alive when they see the pro players on the field. I think it really draws that connection to the new identity they are forming of themselves, that of a soccer player. Rather than seeing themselves as a homeless individual, they see themselves as part of the great worldwide soccer community and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to give that to our participants.”
–Rob Cann, Street Soccer USA
Please join Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation in working with Quakes’ golden boot striker Chris Wondolowski on his “One Goal at a Time” campaign being launched this week to support the Bay Area chapter of Street Soccer USA, the nationwide charity that uses soccer to combat homelessness. (More details on Street Soccer USA at www.streetsoccerusa.org). Wondo, who is the nationwide spokesperson for Street Soccer USA, has
pledged to donate $100 for each goal he scores during the 2012 season.
SSVCF is pleased to announce that we are matching Wondo dollar-for-dollar. SSVCF will also donate $100 to the Bay Area chapter of Street Soccer USA for each goal Wondo scores this season. And we urge individual Quakes fans to contribute what they can, as
well. We are told that for a pledge of just $10 per goal, you can provide a player with a uniform and equipment as well as interview training with a job skills volunteer. For more details on Wondo’s One Goal at a Time campaign, go to www.onegoalatatime.org.
“I love the story of Chris Wondolowksi, two-time Major League Soccer goal-scoring leader, who is a perfect example of someone who used his existing talent to do good things.”
